Abstract
Over the past several years, numerous new drug delivery techniques have been developed, but nanoscale drug delivery systems have proven to be the most alluring. It has been demonstrated that nanocarriers can alter drug kinetics and minimize negative effects brought on by several potent drugs. In this article, we will focus on different types of NLCs and several methods for its preparation. This article highlights the types of NLC, their composition, formulation methodologies, and the conclusion of which method provides us with stable NLCs. Among the different types of NLCs, multiple-type NLCs demonstrate improved drug loading and controlled release characteristics. Various methods for the preparation of NLCs are classified as per the energy requirement. Hot homogenization, microemulsion, and solvent diffusion methods give NLCs with smaller particle sizes and excellent stability. Hot homogenization is widely used due to its scalability and solvent-free nature for formulating NLCs on a large scale.
