RNA therapeutics: A mini review
Received: July 2025 | Accepted: August 2025 | Published: September 2025
Abstract
RNA therapeutics are drugs based on ribonucleic acid (RNA). Their functions are mainly based on complementary base pair binding to mRNA or binding to proteins and controlling central dogma. RNA therapeutics including aptamers, small interfering RNA (siRNA), antisense oligonucleotides (ASO), in vitro transcription mRNA (IVT mRNA) and microRNA’s (miRNA) have shown potential in treating human ailments. These therapies have shown significant promise, particularly evident in the development of mRNA vaccines for COVID-19, but face challenges in terms of stability, cell membrane penetration, and efficient intracellular delivery. Each of the above RNA therapeutics have been discussed along with the RNA therapeutics in pipeline and FDA approved therapeutics in this review.
